What’s so new about the Beverly Hills Diet?
I have to admit, as a Southern California local, dieting is a way of life, and has been so for the past 10 years for me. From the lemonade diet to the protein diet, I’ve been there, done that … and there’s nothing left to see here folks. But don’t get me wrong, I am thin, even by LA standards, so why shouldn’t I start my own diet blog to help others in their quest to be fashionably fit?
The Beverly Hills Diet started out as a book written by Judy Mazelin 1981. The Beverly Hills Diet was a strict 42 day plan that only allowed you to eat fruit the first 10 days. Hellooooo…. who couldn’t lose weight on a diet of fruit for almost 2 weeks???
NEdiet, things have changed with the turn of the millennium, and the New Beverly Hills Diet allows proteins, starches, wine and champagne. Now we’re talking! Here a little snippet of what to expect should you decide to take on the controversial diet:
Proteins go with proteins; carbohydrates go with carbohydrates; all fruit must be eaten alone.
Each day, begin your diet with a single enzymatic fruit from the list of fruits included in the 35-day plan. - Some examples of enzymatic fruits include pineapple, strawberries, grapes, papaya, watermelon, mango, kiwi, persimmon, prunes, apricots and figs. You may eat as much of the fruit as you want, but eat just one fruit at a time. However, you cannot mix grapes with strawberries, for example.
Wait one hour before switching from one fruit to another fruit. Wait two hours before deciding to eat a food from another food group. Once you eat food from another food group, you are not allowed to eat fruit again for the remainder of the day.
If the next food you eat after fruit is a carbohydrate, you may eat them without restriction until you eat a protein. Once you eat protein, no matter how small the amount. Even if it is just milk in your coffee or chicken in your Caesar salad, 80% of what you eat for the balance of the day should be protein.
I’m sure you are noticing the pattern here if you have been keeping up with all of the above. Soooo … carbohydrates are carbohydrates, and should not be combined with a protein. The same applies for all proteins. Fats such as butter, can be combined with protein or carbohydrate, but never a fruit.
Artificial sweeteners, including those found in diet sodas are forbidden. Most alcoholic beverages can be consumed with carbohydrates only.
